Dhri
The Auromir Foundation was set up in 2017 with a group of women and children from the neighboring slums of Chandigarh [read here]. Over a period of seven odd years, these women went through rigorous training and education and learned gradually to become independent and self-reliant. The aim of the Foundation was to make these women self-aware, skilled and employable.
In early 2024, these women and their trainers were ready to launch their skills and products commercially. There was one overriding reason for this—to earn enough to plough back the money into their further education and work, and to bring more disadvantaged women into the fold.
So, Dhri, as a brand, was born.
Dhri is a Sanskrit word that means to hold, bear, or preserve. From this root word arises words like dharma, dharti, dharan, dhairya, dheera—that which upholds, bears, perseveres, and that which is calm and forbearing.
Dhri is not just our brand in the market, it is also our identity in the world—it expresses our deepest aspiration and pride in what we create and what we offer. Because with every product we create and offer, we share a bit of our existence.
We cannot change everything but we can create an environment for growth and learning.
Dhri provides opportunities for developing literacy and vocational skills for becoming employable.
Our aim is to actively empower socio-economically challenged women and help reduce the wide disparities between the privileged and the underprivileged sections to whatever extent possible.
Dhri engages with women and youth who want to learn literacy and vocational skills in order to earn independent livelihoods.
Our Learn & Earn Scheme builds on the traditional skills associated with the specific cultural and social backgrounds of these women.
The women empowerment program is designed to nurture each woman associated with Dhri and help them live with a sense of dignity and self-respect.
